HONEYBEES LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK
HONEYBEE REMOVAL LONG ISLAND, NY

Managed honey bee colonies are an essential part of New York's agriculture. The bees produce unique varieties of New York honey, pollinate numerous plants, fruit trees, vegetables, and nuts, and support the livelihood of New York State beekeepers. It is not unusual on Long Island for honey bees to be present in the environment, unmanaged by a beekeeper. Wild honey bees, also called feral honey bees, can be a nuisance when found on private or commercial Long Island properties, either in a swarm or fully developed bee colony.

SWARMING HONEYBEES LONG ISLAND, NY

Swarming is the honeybee's natural means of reproduction, which occurs primarily in late spring and early summer. In the process of swarming, a single honey bee colony splits into two or more distinct colonies. This cycle effectively has two stages — the swarm, a transient group consisting of one queen and many worker honey bees that exist for a short time, and an established colony that has nested in a location and started building honeycomb in their permanent residence. The swarm usually settles on a tree branch within one hundred feet from the parent nest for a few days and will then leave for a new nest site after receiving information from scout bees. The first step in this home-hunting process begins even before a swarm has departed from the parent nest. A few hundred of a colony's eldest bees, its foragers, stop collecting food and turn instead to scouting for new living quarters. Scout bees search for a snug cavity suitable to construct the honey bee swarm's home. Successful scout honey bees will then return to the swarm and communicate the location of the acceptable nesting site to the other bees. The honeybee's nesting site could be in the hollow of an oak tree or the wall of a Long Island residence. Should a swarm of honeybees show up at your home, contact the honey bee removal specialists at Long Island Pest Control to get rid of the bees. Honey bees swarm for a variety of reasons. Swarming may occur because the beehive becomes overcrowded, so they split with one group of bees remaining in the existing hive. A swarm may also occur because the bees, including the queen, abandon the existing beehive due to a lack of food, water, parasite infestation, disease, disturbance by predators, weather changes, poor ventilation, or problems with the queen.

CARPENTER BEES LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK
CARPENTER BEE REMOVAL LONG ISLAND, NY

Carpenter bees, also known as wood bees, are so named for their ability to tunnel into wood with their strong jaws. These giant black and yellow bees are often seen in the spring hovering around the soffits, the undersurface of a deck or porch railing of Long Island homes. Carpenter bees are frequently mistaken for bumblebees but ordinarily have a hairless, shiny abdomen. In contrast to honeybees and bumblebees, carpenter bees are solitary bees. Carpenter bees are not social insects and don't live in a hierarchically structured bee colony. Carpenter bees can cause a considerable amount of damage to the wood that they nest in, so you need to contact the carpenter bee exterminators at Long Island Pest Control.

BUMBLE BEES LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK
BUMBLE BEE REMOVAL LONG ISLAND, NY

Bumble Bees are sizable black and yellow social insects that live in colonies of fifty to four hundred bees. They are the only bees native to North America and are extremely important pollinators of tomato plants and many other commercial crops. Bumblebees typically nest underneath woodpiles, in unoccupied rat burrows, in compost piles, and even inside the walls of Long Island residences. Bumblebees are generally not aggressive but will defend their nest with repeated stings when threatened. If bumblebees are nesting too close to your home and have become a nuisance, contact Long Island Pest Control to have them expeditiously removed.
